Stereogum Post Exclusive CASTEVET Mixtape

In one of his final posts for Stereogum, Brandon Stosuy asked CASTEVET vocalist/guitarist Andrew Hock to compile a list of songs that influenced him during the writing of the band's critically acclaimed Profound Lore debut, Mounds of Ash. The esteemed writer noted, "Castevet‘s Mounds Of Ash was one of 2010′s best metal releases. The NYC trio’s blend of muscular black metal, hardcore punk, progressive post-rock, compositional implosions, and a “fuck you” attitude made for some of the year’s most compelling music on record and onstage."

Check out the eclectic and wholly unsettling result, which includes "an ambitious collection of dark metal (of various sorts), complex avant-garde jazz, booming classical, and Talk Talk" here: http://stereogum.com/766701/under-the-infl...ash/franchises/haunting-the-chapel/

CASTEVET, will be releasing the long-awaited vinyl edition of Mounds of Ash via Richmond, VA's Forcefield Records. The album's official release date is August 30th, 2011, but preorders will begin shipping on July 30th. Mounds of Ash will be given the deluxe treatment in a limited run of white (100 copies) or black wax, lovingly packaged in full color jackets with black-lining on the inside. Vinyl aficionados take note, both the front and back have spot UV gloss, and the records are house in thick euro sleeves that are also black-lined with inside printing. Photos of the packaging can be viewed HERE.

CASTEVET formed in the fall of '06, releasing small quantities of their first promo CD, a long sold-out debut 7" Stones/Salts (Paragon Records) before catching the attention of Profound Lore, who enlisted them to unleash their first full-length onslaught. The band's virulent mix of vicious post/progressive hardcore and dissonant black metal caught the attention of media and fans alike, and Mounds of Ash graced many of 2010's Top Ten lists.

Metalsucks deemed it "a ragged beast made of dissonant arpeggios and burly grooves that are endlessly propulsive while still taking the time to savor the meatier and more substantive riffs (closer “Harvester“ sounds like what would happen if Darkthrone and Amon Amarth had a baby),"Popmatters found themselves "stuck marveling at just how clever, unique, and striking this album is," and Stereogum recommended it to those who " like muscular, streamlined hardcore with your epic blackened metal." Teeth of the Divine noted "it all comes together for a rewarding, cathartic expression of art meeting extremity," and Sputnikmusic raved, " It’s an unholy trinity of black metal, hardcore and post-rock. The album as a whole does not contain one standout track; it plays out as one solid composition with each hymn smoothly interpolating similar musical ideas to form the sum of its parts. With this grandiose debut, Castevet breathe new life into the fetid lungs of the black metal genre."

Really, the music speaks for itself.
