The Midway Cafe in JP is now doing metal on the third tueday of every month starting with June 21, July 19, and possibly August 16 if all goes well. Please help me out on this one, I think the metal scene in Boston could use a great venue to have regular shows at and this one looks pretty up to par. The shows are all 21 + unfortunately, but its a small price to pay for a consistent venue that's looking to help the metal scene. You should stab them until they make it all ages. Fuck 21+. It is really unfortunate that only 21+ venues support metal in Boston, makes the scene so much harder to perpetuate.

and yeah 21+ plus does suck, but point out where these all ages venues are. it seems places that tried all ages like All Asian was shut down cause underaged kids were drinking out front and fights were breaking out. but this is jsut what i heard i wasn't there to see it in person.

All ages shows are great and i wish that were the case, unfortunately Bars are businesses first and unfortunately you have to deal with that at this point. if I lived in an apt in Boston and could get away with it, you can bet i'd be holding all ages shows there, but alas i do not. i had fun at the midway last night; it's not that big, but it has nice sound, the staff are awesome people and it's pretty easy to find. i'll be looking forward to more shows there.

umm... any suggestions on bands to book that would draw a good crowd? other than certain obvious ones who would be on tours etc. i'd like to get some publicity about this place so it can get off the ground.

What's the capacity there? It sucks to say, but there really aren't many local Metal bands that can pull in like 25+ people on a weeknight... But if you only need to get 50 or so people in the door, it's certainly possible.

i think capacity is around 70. but even 50 would look like a lot, its smaller than AS220, maybe even smaller than the Middle East upstairs

yeah and basicly at a place like this which is a strait up bar, if they get raided and theres a bunch of kids who are under 21 drinking - they get fucked. lose their license or whatever. i dont think its anywhere near unreasonable to ask that the shows be 21+.

that being said, the tyag show ended up being free and the guys that worked there were really fucking cool. the big black bartenders brother is the king of gospel in japan. go figure

How is it possible to be so idiotic about this. It's general knowledge that all ages shows will draw more heads, and I think it's important in order for the scene to grow kids should be able to be part of it. The palladium has a bar and is all ages, the bombshelter has been all ages for some shows.

Don't suggest that we promote our band a 'lil' better. It really has nothing to do with it. I don't have the time/money to run my own club, if I did I would and I wouldn't book your band. Eat shit.

yeah 21+ blows. i agree. it would be amazing to have an all ages club in boston. but to say 21+ is killing metal is just wrong. whenever there is a good show at obriens it does well. there are lots of people 21 and over that come out and go for the music. not everyone is out to get loaded. some do both. i would be pissed if i was under 21 and i couldn't go to some of the shows i have seen there so i understand the rage. if i ever had the funds to open an all ages club i would try my best for it. but in all honesty the city of boston would probably never let something like that happen anyway.

We had Atomic BBQ #3 a the Midway Cafe with Gut, Medicine 4 Tim, the Kiran Ridge Band, and Vibewise. It was a great show. I like this venue. It's a small dive bar similar to O'Brien's. Actually, it's a little bit smaller than O'Brien's!

i don't agree with that. if i can go see a band i like i am going to go see them regardless where it is. shows have been selling out lately at obriens. a 21+ hotspot is better than no hotspot. the choppin block was doing well at one point too when it was still open. integrity played there because they couldn't find anywhere else to do it. so would there 21+ fans rather them play at a shitty bar, or not play at all? the people that saw them benefited from seeing them at a shitty bar.

As for recommendations, 1 or 2 of the following bands on each show would not hurt at all: HIRUDINEA, CWAF, KEVORKIAN'S ANGELS, ADOLF SATAN, HEKSERI, NECROBEAST, WITCH TOMB, ABHORRED, WATCHMAKER, ONE MASTER, I DESTROYER, SIN OF ANGELS...
