Glendale, AZ extreme metal unit Job for a Cowboy has completed work on their highly anticipated full-length debut, entitled GENESIS. The fast-rising band, known for their punishing songs, explosive live performances and forward thinking vision, will release GENESIS on May 15 via Metal Blade Records.
Job for a Cowboy, who toured the world in 2006 in support of their wildly-popular, self-financed "Doom" EP, recorded Genesis at Blue Light Audio Media in Phoenix, AZ with producer Cory Spotts. The album was mixed by the Grammy winning Andy Sneap (Opeth, Entombed, Megadeth). Anticipation for Genesis is such that the band has already been named one of "Metal's Most Important Troops for 2007" by Metal Hammer, one of Total Guitar's "Hottest Guitar Bands of 2007", one of Alternative Press' 2007 "Bands You Need to Know" and one of Revolver's "Breakthrough Bands that will be Kicking Your Ass this Year".
On the topic of the new album, Job for a Cowboy guitarist Ravi Bhadriraju comments, "Genesis is a record that we as a band needed to fulfill. We wrote an album that we wanted to play live well into the distant future. If there is one word to describe our new record, it is "aggressive". We want this album to have a certain effect on the listener. I am happy with what we have achieved, and I hope our fans appreciate it too."
Vocalist Johnny Davy states, "We wrote the material that became the "Doom" EP at a very young age and the sound of this upcoming record is a much different one than anything we've done before. We're anxious for its release and we hope everyone who hears it will enjoy."
“Genesis” track listing:
1. Bearing the Serpent's Lamb
2. Reduced to Mere Filth
3. Altered from Catechization
4. Upheaval
5. Embedded

i'm sure this will get a positive response. i like JFAC though.. so... wOOt! |
where's the bree bree gort gort? This isn't nearly as bad as the old stuff. |
as a sidenote, it's really odd to hear Kevin Talley play so rigidly...not really his style. |
so thats definitly Talley? |
I guess not. Rev, where did you get that info about Talley? I can't find anything about it anywhere. |
So it is cool to like them now?...I can't keep up. |
i've always liked this band... fuck everyone. |
you are weird anyway , Being in that never say never band. |
ya well... so's your face. |

Same here, weird name but the music shuts the haters up!
who care's what's cool? this shit sounds good, much better than the ep. i didnt mind that either though. |
I do admit though...It sounds way better than the EP. |

Why are these guys so fucking popular? 7.5 million plays...what the nuts? |
Gayest name ever, but I've been into these guys since I saw the Job For a Sponge video on YouTube. I couldn't really give less of a fuck what pretty much everyone I know says about these guys, I'm still a fan. |
DEW-SCENTED is a worse name, also a good band though. |
Good but not worth the hype |

Also a fair statement. I like them, but the hype's a bit much. |

One of my favorite newer death/thrash bands. |

hahaha i feel the same way. it seems like a week ago it was "FUCK JOB FOR A COWBOY, BREAKDOWNS ARE FOR MYSPACE". now its "JOB FOR A COWBOY IS AWESOME, I'VE ALWAYS LOVED THEM". |
yeah this new song definitely has more to it than their older stuff |
id just rather listen to goratory |
So glad I missed them at the Corpse show in NYC last weekend...(well, I wouldn't say I missed 'em)
What a horrible band name. Death Metal has become so dull these days and plagued with bored metalcore kids with these gay novelty band names....Gay Gay Gay... I'm mean fuckin' A! Job For A Cowboy???? I don't know, Its just very Brokeback.
I can't believe I bumping this gay thread. |
BTW, like the humpy things Rev^ |
It's simple, some people hate them because of their name and their myspace popularity. I myself avoided this band because of the name, but it's not bad at all. |
I've heard the entire new album, and it's definitely a lot deeper into the more extreme metal/death metal foray than either their demo or the Doom EP. I don't think I heard the piggy vocals once, which I'm cool with. They're certainly one of those bands that you're glad the CD is short because it can get old quick, but for what style they've chosen, they do it well. I would take them over As I Lay Dying or Trivium any day of the week. Much more brutal and to the point, no frills. |
when i first heard doom i thought it was good. it was kind of a novelty with all the bree vocals which werent overdone and played out at the time. then every band under the sun started copying jfac and everyone started to hate them. then they decided to abandon the bree vocal thing and write some good death metal. they are also a solid live band and killed mostly all the bands that headlined metalfest this year. i agree that they arent worth the hype but whatever maybe your death metal band will get some attention now that its in the mainstream. and if not now then definitely by this summer when behemoth and nile play ozzfest. GET INTO IT SCENESTERS!! |
It took me a while to get into JFAC when I heard Doom because their drummer on the EP was crappy. But after a while they grew on me. I still haven't seen them but I wouldn't mind. I'm definitely looking forward to the album. |

I agree, this band is not death metal, its more like "brokebackcore". quality death metal has come and gone for the most part. |
I just burnt this lastnight. It started off way better than i ws expecting, but about halfway through started getting old.
I gotta listen to it a few more times though. |
I had the same reaction when I heard it. It's only a 30 minute album, but I can't sit through the whole thing. |

they really bother me. their first album is paper-thin myspace-core, and it sucks. so they found out that people felt that way, and made a deeper wannabe death metal, and people started saying "wow, they really came around this time". no they didnt, they did what was easiest, it just became better sounding paper-thin garbage. |
I've started listening to it and I had some higher hopes for it but over all I feel it's a mediocre release and I'm only 8 tracks in. No tracks have stood out more than another, feeling too linier at the moment. Maybe if I give it a few more listens but so far nothing has may me say "that's awesome". I miss what made the Doom EP so great which includes pig vocals and bass bombs. None thus far. Granted it was generic for me to make that statment but isn't one of the reasons why we liked having that cd in our players is because of those 2 elements? |
They're new stuff already sounds so much better. I like bree's and all once in a while, but I think they're starting to be very overdone in the deathcore genre. Just listen to Despised Icons "Consumed By Your Poison" cd. Awesome music, but brees are overdone to the point where I wanna kick field goals with babies. |
consumed by your posion is a rerelease of an older album that came out long before brees were played out. i bet their new cd has almost no piggies. |
Cav, new Despised Icon has plenty of bree. |
I know Consumed by your Poison is a re-release of an old one, but it shows how much they're overdone and that everyone is doing them now.
The new one has plenty of brees to make any bree-head happy. I personally think it's their best one yet. |
there are few bands i like that do the "bree" thing properly. there is straight "breeing" like these guys, or that weird pig like sound like the guy from Exhumed. "bree" is gay, but Exhumed pig like sound is awesome. |
the bree started when young kids tried to emulate people like Frank Mullen from Suffocation but couldn't go that deep/low so they offered a shitty fake low which was very hollow and eventually that was emulated and evolved into the bree. it is mostly younger kids who haven't ripped up their throats enough to really have a ballsy gutteral. i recommend gargling WD-40 and gravel. |
DI should not be mentioned in this thread. they do not deserve to get lumped in with trendjumping kids doing a parody of real DM. |
jesus christ dwyer, listen to what you're saying. |
I loved the 1st DI CD, been disappointed since. |
I saw Job for a cowboy when they played with Animosity, Cattle Decap, and FASSW, and they had less intensity than most of the shitty local bands around here. Their live sound was really bad and they couldn't play their "technical parts" for shit. One of their new songs, embedded, sounds like it steals drum parts from Decapitated's "Nihility." They're just another fad band like As Blood Runs Black or August burns Red. Everyone will forget them in a few weeks. |
the music ain't so bad, but the mix is a little sterile and boring, sonically.
Job For A Cowboy < Purple Rain.
Enough Said. |
new despised icon is bullshittingly GAY |
I finally heard a track from this band -- nothing to shit twinkies about, but it wasn't bad.
I would make fun of the band name, but I am in a band called "Life at Zero" which is almost as lame. |
life starts and ends at zero. |

Oh come on, the new Despised Icon isnt THAT bad. It just has a little bit more core in it and for their sound it fits them. |
no... it really is when you think about how high they set the bar. its ordering a steak and cheese sub with kobe beef and getting a shit sandwich... its just that bad. |

I'm assuming you didn't like The Healing Process either did you? |
"Bree"?...What the fuck kinda gay term is that?. Guess I am not up on my scene lingo. |
how has this merited more than like 20 posts. This is an average effort from a below average band. |
Maybe because they are not below average. |
Fine, fine...they're average. |
Dwellingsickness said: "Bree"?...What the fuck kinda gay term is that?. Guess I am not up on my scene lingo. |
its a term used when mediocre metal singers try to do gutturals and and it comes out sounding exactly like that....bree. |
Go listen to your BRODEQUIN CDs and go "BREEEE BREEEE" along with every line. |

That's the "official" explanation, but Downsy came up with the name, so I always thought it referred to his drinking days. |

i love that album. that was original and entertaining. the new one is garbage. the healing process was the "bar" i was referring to in that post. |

Yea that's an amazing album and I don't get it when people say they didn't like it after hearing the first album. I think the new one is just an extension of the first one in terms of production quality and sound. They do have more hardcore influence in it but everything is a bit faster.
"Brees" are merely just inhaling death metal vocals. I just call them pig vocals. |
Dude, these guys are fucking amazing. Who cares what genre they are. Oh and I'm pretty sure their name is because they're from Arizona. Cowboys...Arizona...get it meatheads? Sorry they're not named Death of a Bleeding Priest or some lame shit like most death metal bands. Another sweet band like these guys from Arizona? The Irish Front. So good but diff name. So what? Check em out:
http://www.myspace.com/sabfhasrdbf
Oh god thats a MySpace link! Everybody cry to Satan!
The guitarists are so fucking sick on Doom and Genesis, but I have to say that the new drummer waaaay overuses the double bass. This is why good metal never gets big in the states. They're huge in Europe. They know they're shit. Because people like you guys have to rag on every single thing and compare the shit out of it. So they got big on MySpace. Good for them. That's why it's there. To help promote bands, fuck. Plus they're young as hell and got signed to Metal Blade. They must be doing something right! Oh yeah, everything!
P.S. I thought the squealing on Doom was pretty sweet. :P |

EXACTLY WHAT I'VE BEEN SAYING!!!
A lot of the death-core bands out there sound like pretty good death-grind to me. |

just heard this cd, pretty good. |

Just got the cd, Its ok. Kinda boring at times. As much as people dislike the old cd, iT came off a bit more intense when i first heard it. The new one is more technical which is good, but its lacking. |
