New site? Maybe some day.

I just ordered mine. Psyched!!!!
At last, for the first time since it's original release, the legendary grindcore album "Realm Of Chaos" is finally available on vinyl!!
This limited edition vinyl has been pressed from the original master tapes in Full Dynamic Range audio. Those of you who bought the Napalm Death "Scum" and "From Enslavement To Obliteration" LPs earlier this year will already know just how much of a difference this makes.
For those of you who missed out, this means the album is at its optimum sound quality, with full dynamic range and in its highest resolution. No loss of quality, no compromise. To put it simply, this is, without doubt, the best sound this album has ever had!
Originally released in 1989, the album immediately took up residency as a Death Metal/grind masterpiece, mixing an incredibly heavy sound with a war-based theme and image that the band still employ to this day. This re-issue features brand new art drawn by original GW Warhammer 40K Jon Sibbick, the artist who also did the original art for the release back in 89.
Bolt Thrower continue to enjoy success to this day, and have also released Warmaster, The 4th Crusade, ...For Victory and the rarities collection Who Dares Wins on Earache.

I WANT THE AWESOME "CHAOS BLACK" ONE!! ...oh wait. |
Lame that they can't get the original, superior artwork. |
double agreed. |
Chaos was so much better before they decided to split the demons into a seperate race. |
@ Tully: Haha, nice. Thanks.
@ Rossboss: Very true. FWIW, in 6th edition you can have allies, so technically speaking you can have CSM allied with Daemons, or with Traitor Guard (IG codex). |
Also this is now officially a 40K thread.
^Game-action, or staged for photo? Either way, awesome. |
In-game from tonight's combat patrol match-up - those marines made it with help from a counter-charging scout marine unit, but only just barely. |

6th ed does allow some demons but theyre mostly lower horrors and things like that. I miss having my demon prince of Nurgle use plague weapons alongside a battalion of Khorne berzerkers. |

also has anyone played any Forge World? Some mega-nerd in the comic store was telling me about it. MUST USE TITAN |
why all the colors? Who do they think they are Ghost? |

So they can sell five different versions to crazy collectors. |

It's basically resin crack: super-expensive-but-awesome collector stuff, like old versions of current vehicles, super-heavies like Baneblades and titans, and long OOP stuff like the Rapier Laser Destroyer, all in resin and all with their own rules (you need opponent's permission to use'em, but if they're not a dick nobody should really have a problem with it). |
Yea from what I read I figured it was mostly for collectors, very awesome but ridiculous. |
In that game Space Marine you get to ride on a Titan. Shit is huggggggggge, like 9 times taller than a Rhino. |
Tell you the truth, I don't really dig the new "space-filling" Terminators. They changed'em to a 40mm base from a 25mm, and it looks like the models are all doing Matrix poses to try and justify the switch. To me a Terminator suit is a walking tank, all clunky and static. *shrug*

I heard these are in the mail.

wait a minute, does that mean that you can build mixed armies? What exactly are the rules? Like could I have a Tyranid/Chaos Marine hybrid army? cuz THAT would be awesome. |
Jo Bench still isn't going to spread for any of you dorks. |

Tyranids in particular (alone out of all the factions, and excluding for some reason Necrons) CAN'T have allies. That said, I'm totally building a Genestealer cult with Genestealers from the 'Nid list and cultists from the IG list, and fuck the haters.
But, yeah, usually you just gotta have I think a certain amount of points total, and you need at least 1 HQ and 1 Troops choice from the allied faction. Other than that, the sky's the limit. |
So there arent any specific diplomacy rules? Like you can pair IG with forces corrupted by the Warp? WEIRD |

No, there's a whole chart. But, y'know, Traitor Guard. |

I spoke with a dude from earache about the general state of the music industry and they're basically re-releasing everything under license for vinyl collectors. If it's a classic and hasn't gone through a repress recently, it's only a matter of time. Things like this keep the labels from sinking entirely. |
They are repressing Left Hand Path in February. |

so a pirate consults a person in the music industry about the state of the music industry?
I'm more interested in this, because it's lolz. |
I was going to say thats like hitler asking the jews about the status of auschwitz but that kind of humor is immoral and illogical by today's rttp's standards. Awaiting angry texts. |

I didn't have to speak to anyone for old news. |

haha. But also, would love to have a nice new vinyl of Like an Ever Flowing Stream. |
hopefully theyll reissue Godflesh Streetcleaner too. And From Enslavement to Obliteration, Symphonies of Sickness, all that shlizz. |

I have the crappy sounding Back on Black version and I assume they still have the rights to the vinyl. I hope Earache releases the entire Carcass catalog on vinyl with the new album coming out next year and I'm still looking for a copy of Altars of Madness that isn't a picture disc and isn't gonna cost me $100. |
also, Forest of Equilibrium would be excellent on vinyl. |

YES!!! I'm surprised they didn't do a Cathedral reissue when they did their final shows last year. |

I got like an ever flowing stream on vinyl. The only thing weird is that it shows you that they majorly vary the lengths of their songs. So it looks weird cause you have 2 HUGE areas and then some smaller ones. Just looks weird to me. |
hmmm, not sure if I should wait for some Chaos Black to make it to US distros or just get them from Earache. |

The funniest part is that he bought me beers at NWN! Fest. Dunno why someone like him would ever support piracy like that. |

Ikea monkey melts my heart |

I received my copy of Realm of Chaos in the mail yesterday. It sounds really good. I actually kind of like the new cover. Wish it came with a poster. The sleeve the record comes in is kind of flimsy. I would have gladly paid more for a gatefold. If Earache keeps releases them I'll keep buying them. Can't wait to get Left Hand Path. |
for $24 PLUS SHIPPING you can own your very own copy of the 2nd bolt thrower album on a CD pressed to 12'' vinyl! This album hasn't been on vinyl since the early 90's, what a deal! Collect all 4!
record industry in 2012 is like the comic book industry in the early/mid 90's. I can't wait to see these shitty reissues at all the local record shops and flea markets dirt cheap in five years. |
fuck off stampcollecting speculators anyway; if you're buying these for resale value, you deserve what you get. |
If you steal music from the internet you're a bad guy. If you buy vinyl and support metal labels you're a sucker. You can't win I guess. I'm a metal fan so I like owning copies of albums I like with the big artwork and sometimes better sound. I don't care about limited colors or whatever. I just buy whatever is available. |
the price is just my complaint, i would be more inclined to support these shitty ubiquitous reissues if the labels didn't feel entitled to sell them for $20+ a piece knowing that the only alternative is to buy an original on ebay for at least twice as much, and instead sold them for $10-15 like every vinyl record ever prior to 2008. |
I don't think you realize how expensive it is to press vinyl these days. I used to think $20+ for a record was ridiculous, but after looking up the prices for Blessed Offal to self-release an LP, I realized that $20 is actually pretty reasonable.
I'm not denying that earache are most likely a bunch of money grubbing bagel fiends, jus' sayin'. |
For instance, if you pressed the record from OP with this company, http://www.urpressing.com/colorpalette.php , it would be roughly $4.40 per record for just the record, then probably another $4-5 per to print the layouts, then shipping, and they have to pay the band per record of course, and the label has to make money as well, otherwise their would be no reason to bother in the first place. |
Yeah, I don't get how it's so expensive now. Is it jut because there are so few operating pressing plants now? |
im aware of vinyl costs, been there with pressing cds and records.
im not sure their exact format, but i just decided to check out the quote generator for UR for the sake of argument. 1500 records with custom Jackets and paper sleeves comes to a unit price of $3.93 each. Because they are pressing 1500 copies of this the unit price is much cheaper than most bands who will self press 300-500. Besides, if you're self pressing its a labor of love anyway, and probably a better choice to make them cheaper and more available to the fans.
If it comes with a lyric sheet then add a little bit of money for that. Yes of course the band will get paid, but i'm sure with earache this is some royalty deal more than a lump sum or 20% of the pressing like most UG labels do. Even if after all this it did turn out to be $8, they're selling it for $24, triple the cost itself. Also i'm assuming their wholesale rate isn't much better because any labels who distribute this i've seen asking even more than that. Most labels can do just fine selling records with superior packaging for $16-18, and this one doesn't seem too elaborate, just a single disc in a jacket.

This thread was a lot cooler when it was still a Warhammer thread.
This thread was cooler when it was about Realm of Chaos and not about getting butthurt over record labels making money. |
Record labels are businesses. They want to make money. Some people (like me) dont mind paying a bit more for a glorious LP version of a particularly good album because we are nerds who own childrens toys from the 70s and display them on our shelves like they were trophies. It really doesnt need to be this complicated. Realm of Chaos is one of my favorite DM albums of all time and I wanted it on vinyl and they released it. I paid maybe 8 bucks more than it was worth, and earache gets 8 dollars more incentive to do more awesome vinyl releases. WHY IS THIS SUCH A PROBLEM TO YOU BRAH |
On a side note I just paid 25 (although it ended up being on sale for only 20) bucks for an awesome 180gram double-LP gatefold bla bla all that shit vinyl version of Manowars 'triumph of steel' even though I have the cd and it was worth every penny. Sounds so good with that nice organic reverby sound that only vinyl can provide. |
I'm guessing you didn't get the memo when most if not all modern pressing plants make their lacquers from digital masters, and if they do accept DAT tapes or another analog master they usually convert them to CD-r or something in house. The analog warmth you speak doesn't exist on any record pressed in the past 10 years anyway, but people believe that because they're playing it on a system that doesn't convert soundwaves to binary code that it somehow sounds better. Besides we're not talking about a mozart concerto played on a 17th century stradivarius, we're talking about a 90's death metal album. I doubt anybody on this board probably notices a difference from their CD version. |
I think i'll just leave this here...
